Taco Lita is one of my favorite places ever, one of the only remaining places in the SGV at which I can say I have been eating for almost 40 years.
But I wasn't planning to go on this trip, because they have not been serving their famous, beloved taco sauce for many years.
Eating their tacos without their sauce seemed like a terrible idea, like ordering In-n-Out fries even if they stopped selling their spread.
But I was nearby and I was hungry. I decided to stop in for three tacos.
Then it occurred to me that it was Friday and I could order the Friday Special, which I have been eating since grade school.
I'll still only eat three tacos, I thought. I'll bring the other two back to Murph.
As soon as I took the first bite of the first taco, I knew I was going to eat all five.
They are every bit as great as they ever were. Would they have been better with their eponymous taco sauce instead of Heinz? Yes, of course. But they were still great and I am very glad I returned after 7 years.
