When I saw the new packaging for Trader Joe's Margherita Pizza, I assumed it was just that: new packaging.
I have been eating the Margherita pizza since, I dunno, probably 2003.
(When I first became friends with Murph circa 2004, even he kept them in his freezer, because they were so easy and tasty. I am willing to bet he no longer does that.)
But then I read somewhere that they had reformulated the pizza, with an all-new crust.
I was intrigued. Although I used to eat the pizza a LOT, that was because it is cheap and easy, not because it was anything special. I used to add fresh cheese and basil to it to make it better; I always thought the crust kind of sucked.
So I tried the new pizza.
The crust does not suck.
In fact... I am not sure if I have ever had a better crust on a frozen pizza.
Seriously.
If they sold this crust by itself, it's all I would ever use to make pizza. It is soft, pliable, and actually tastes somewhat fresh - or at least closer to fresh than any frozen crust I ever remember eating.
Now, the toppings? Kind of weak.
I drizzled some of TJ's Platinum Balsamic on top. I should have added fresh cheese and basil.
Next time, I will.
I highly recommend this pizza. The original was good. The crust on this - if nothing else - is great.
