Christmas Roundup

This has been, by far, the warmest holiday season in my years in Santa Fe. There was that massive storm in November and I thought Damn, it's gonna be a nasty season, but there has barely been anything but flurries since then. It gets down below freezing at night, of course, but the days have been in the 50s.

I am typing these words on Christmas morning, and it forecast to is 49ยบ today.

Some friends gave me this. I hated it.

In 2009, I was living with a woman who was almost never happy. I would try to do things on occasion to cheer her up. As expected, they never worked for more than a couple of minutes. One day she had mentioned an album she wanted to get. (Remember albums?) So I went to Canterbury Records to buy it for her. Why I chose that place, I do not remember.

While there, a woman came in and returned Bob Dylan's new Christmas album, saying it was absolutely terrible. Now, I love Bob Dylan's music, more than almost anyone you have ever met. But that is because his writing is as good as any songwriter who ever lived. His voice is awful, sometimes painful. So it had never occurred to me to buy an album of him singing songs someone else had written... and I would not have wanted a copy of him singing Christmas songs even if was given to me for free.

But then I heard his rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" on some TV show the other day and I thought You know what? That's not bad. His world-weary, worn-out voice suits the song well. So I listened to it while running an errand.

I love cake. God help me, I love it so.

Christmas bobcat.

Lavash with chicken, pepperoncini, and Trader Joe's Platinum balsamic.

Maggie got a new duck that she loves, even though she is a Poop Dog.

I gave my mom a photo of Maggie resting in the autumn leaves of one of the Aspen trees, which she loved. Even though Maggie is a Poop Dog.

I will say this about the aforementioned woman who was almost never happy: She gave great presents. The first Christmas we were together, she gave me a first edition copy of this book, which has long been one of my favorites.

It did not technically need to be in the photo with my breakfast.

Air-fryer crispy tacos while watching the first game.

Chicken soup dumplings while watching the second game.
