There was only one restaurant in this tiny town that looked good to me, and it is closed on Tuesdays - the one day of the week I was there.
Most of the restaurants serve the same menu of burgers, chicken, and ribs, the kind of stuff you get at the deli counter of a supermarket.
Imperio Azteca did not look bad, of course, but it did not look particularly good; it looked like the kind of restaurant that is on every block in Santa Fe. I don't eat at those kind of restaurants when I'm on a road trip for the same reason I don't eat fast food on road trips. Why get something on vacation that I can get at home?
But I was hungry - I had not eaten anything since that biscuit for breakfast - so I gave it a try.
It was delicious.
The salsa sucked - undoubtedly out of a plastic container, probably one several gallons large - but the chile relleno and birria tacos were great.
