KFC Saucy Nuggets

KFC has long been one of my least favorite fast food chains - and yes, I have such a hierarchy - and I go there on average once every couple of years to try a new product.

(I once wrote something rather negative about KFC that, according to Google, has received pageviews well into six digits - one of the most popular things I have ever written.)

On Monday, they released a new product: saucy nuggets. There is nothing clever about this; you have seen me do this exact same thing for more than a decade.

The only thing that got my interest is that one of the flavors is Georgia Gold, which is one of the great fast food sauces I have ever eaten in my life. So I wanted to try those.

There are five flavors in total:
  • Georgia Gold
  • Honey Sriracha
  • Nashville Hot
  • Korean BBQ
  • Sticky Chinky
Actually, the last one is called Sticky Chicky

But the first time I saw it in print, I wasn't wearing my reading glasses and that's how I read it.

This sign on the wall made me smile. Colonel Sanders is an icon, and KFC still uses him in advertising to this day, so most people don't realize that he hated what KFC became after he sold the company in 1964. He thought they used low-quality ingredients.

Because they do.

Colonel Sanders died in 1980. I can only image what he would think of KFC in 2024 - especially filthy, run down locations like the one in Santa Fe. Or... well, pretty much every other KFC to which I have ever been.

Anyway, the food:

The Georgia Gold was just as good as I remembered it.

The Sticky Chicky tasted like sweet & sour chicken from a fast-casual Chinese restaurant. Which is a very good thing.

I wish KFC would bottle their sauces and sell them at the grocery store like Panda Express or Subway. The sauces are (by far) the best thing about the place. And then I would never again have to visit an actual KFC location.
