The Summer of Cerveza Sundays: Dodgers vs Yankees and Cilantro-Lime Shrimp Tacos

When I visited California in January of 2023, I bought quite a few beers, both in Pasadena and in Tempe on my return. I noticed that a lot of them were Mexican-style lagers - which is, of course, not surprising, as I freaking love Mexican beers.

I decided rather than drink them that winter, I would collect a few more and then drink them the first day of 2023 when the temperature hit 80 degrees.

If you know me, you know exactly what happened next: On that first 80º day I said to myself "Nope, this collection isn't big enough. I need MORE."

So on my next road trip - to Southwestern Texas that summer - I collected a few more.

At this point, I probably had around 25 Mexican-style beers from American breweries.

Not enough.

My next road trip was to Dallas to see an old friend in September. I bought at least another 10 Mexican-style beers, making my collection at this point about 35.

Still not enough.

I needed another Colorado trip to load up.

So I went to Boulder in autumn and bought a few more, making the collection around 50.

A good number.

But still not enough.

So on my January California trip, I went to Total Wine and other stores in both San Diego and Pasadena, as well as another stop in Phoenix.

Now I was up to 60.

"This will do," I said to myself. This coming summer will be the Summer of Cerveza Sundays.

I snuck in one more road trip, to Durango in May, taking the number all the way up to 65.

A damn respectable number.

On Sundays for the next 3.5 months, when I am able to, I will be watching ESPN Sunday Night Baseball on the patio and drinking these beers.

I had to wait for the weather to warm up and for the first matchup to be a good one. And last night was a great one: Dodgers vs. Yankees - the current favorites for the World Series.

(Although we have had several 90º+ days the last week, the weather was not great last night so I only watched the first 7 innings under a canopy and then came inside to watch the end of the game and cooked dinner.)
